Position: Corrections Officer
Description: Correctional Officer Duties

Maintain the safety and security of the inmates at the York County Jail.

Typical Duties include:

  • Maintain discipline and orderly conduct among inmates
  • Prepare and escort inmates to court appearances
  • Supervise the cleaning of the jail and inmate living areas
  • Render emergency first aid
  • Supervise large number of inmates involved in jail activities and programs
  • Work with and assist other correctional officers at all assigned posts in the Jail
  • Process new inmates received from enforcement officers
  • Complete and submit incident reports

  • Fingerprinting and criminal background check

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school graduate or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Stable employment record
  • Graduate of or ability to attend the MCJA Basic Corrections course
  • Pass the department's physical assessment exam
  • No disqualifying convictions or conduct, including felonies, domestic violence, and OUI
